Welcome to the fourth ever Narellan Poetry Slam!
A poetry slam is an opportunity for ANYBODY to share something they've written in front of an engaged audience! It doesn't have to be a "poem" - any kind of story, rap or rant is acceptable!
DOORS - 6:30PM
SLAM - 7:00PM
CLOSE- 9:00 PM
POETRY SLAM RULES:
- 3 minute time limit
- All original work
- No props or costumes
- No background music - singing and acapella are ok!
And YOU - the audience - get to judge! Judges are selected randomly on the night. The top-scoring poet gets a PRIZE!
FEATURE POET - ARIELLE COTTINGHAM
Afro-Latina poet, performance artist, and dancer Arielle Cottingham began performing spoken word in 2014 while studying abroad at the University of Melbourne. She returned to San Antonio, Texas, to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre at Trinity University, during which time she became a regular performer at PuroSlam and The Blah Blah Blah Poetry Spot. In September 2015 she returned to Melbourne, where she began pursuing a career as a full-time, working performance poet and creative producer of Slamalamadingdong. She is the 2016 Australian Poetry Slam National Champion, and her first published book, Black and Ropy, was released in 2017 with Pitt Street Poetry.
SUPPORT FEATURE - NAHIDA HAFZA
Nahida Hafza is a 14 year old girl who loves to perform and write poetry. She uses poetry as a way to express her thoughts and feelings. She continuously strives to be the best leader possible, and inspire many of her peers. Nahida has a great passion for playing sport, and is a huge fan of the NRL.
