I loved this book! El is now one of my favourite characters and I can’t wait to see more of her. Naomi Novik brings her wonderfully dark and odd fantasy world to life with El’s dry and witty voice. The pacing is spot on, leaving you genuinely excited to read the next page. – Isobel

A Deadly Education is a bit like Harry Potter if Harry had been a sassy teen girl, there were no teachers to keep order, and a single student dying is a good day. Children with magical abilities are left to their own devices at the Scholomance, where they must battle demons on the daily for their education, their lunch, and their lives. We join El as she walks the delicate line between remaining solitary to protect herself and making friends to trade with and make life that little bit more enjoyable. A Deadly Education is Novik’s first foray into teen fiction. If you are a fan of Uprooted and Spinning Silver (I certainly am!), I recommend going in expecting something totally different. If you do, I think you’ll be hanging for the second instalment of this unique series as much as we are! – Ash
