American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins

I tried to read this book slowly to soak up all the detail. I failed and finished in three days – some books are just too good to put down! When their family are murdered by a local drug cartel a mother and her eight-year-old son are forced to flee Acapulco. Travelling north by any means they join thousands of migrants desperate for safety and a new life in the U.S. They encounter theft, rape, murder and brutality that will have you scared to turn the next page. Yet amidst all the horror is a story of hope, kindness, friendship and love – an unforgettable read.
