Firefront edited by Alison Whittaker

Fire Front is a brilliant anthology of Aboriginal poetry, from a diverse range of both familiar writers and contemporary ones. This collection also features essays at the beginning of each section by Aboriginal authors, which help to further explore the ideas presented in each poem. It is deeply reflective about the power of language and the danger that White Australians fall into in literary criticism of excluding, misunderstanding or altering meaning. Alison Whittaker calls Aboriginal poetry “a precise incision into the colonial Australian imagination… The Fire is as much a threat of reckoning with what is improperly imposed, as it is an offer for restoration.” (ix-xii). A must-read collection that will introduce you to some new favourite poets!  Georgia
