“You’re very silly or very brave, living in a haunted house.” Our protagonist, Noemi, is sent to countryside Mexico in aide of her newlywed cousin, who sent her a frantic letter begging for her help. Upon her arrival she realises this is no ordinary family and no ordinary house, having to follow a ridiculous number of rules and only permitted to see her cousin when they see fit. This unconventionally haunting book was a wild ride from beginning to end. Definitely not for the faint of heart, be prepared to be shocked and sickened… but in a good way! Silvia Moreno-Garcia has a beautiful way of immersing you in the story, and is a new favourite author of mine! - Issi
