Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

Marrickville

Sometimes I want a book that will challenge my world view, and sometimes I just want to escape into a feel-good story. This thoroughly delightful book is the latter. The two main protagonists are a 70-year-old widow named Tova and an octopus named Marcellus. Yes, an octopus. I was skeptical at first, but somehow debut novelist Van Pelt makes the story and the dialogue sing with joy and authenticity. If you’re in a reading rut or just need a pick-me-up, 'Remarkably Bright Creatures' could be your next favourite read. Renee
