Wonderfully Dickensian in every sense, this book follows young protagonist Theo from the devastation of a terror attack to the heights of New York society. All the while, Theo's guilt follows him and threatens to drag him back down, physically embodied by the valuable painting (The Goldfinch by Carel Fabritius) he stole in the chaos after the attack. This novel is a thoughtful and touching narrative that makes your heart ache. A beautiful story. Sebastian
