In this workshop you’ll learn everything you wanted to know about writing picture books. As both an author and an editor working in children’s publishing, Irma will give participants an honest and realistic insight into the publishing industry. You’ll learn how to create work that young readers will love, explore and develop new ideas through exercises, and gain tips and techniques on how to hone your manuscript to perfection before submitting to a publisher. You will come away with the beginnings of a new picture book.
‘First class. Irma Gold knows her topic from every angle. What a privilege to spend a few hours with her’ — former picture book workshop participant.

About the venue
Harry Hartog Booksellers ANU, 153-11 University Avenue, (MAP HERE).
We are located just beside the Kambri Precinct. Please just be aware that it is a very new building, and will not show up very accurately on Google Maps. Please refer to the map in the link above to help you find your way. The Harry Hartog ANU phone number is: 0477091650.
There are an array of cafes serving coffee and lunch options close by, and they are all open on Saturdays (tea, coffee, hot water, milk and biscuits are provided by the ACTWC.) The Harry Hartog team are happy to have you place some food in their fridge, and use their microwave, should you wish to bring your lunch.
Toilets are located just outside Harry Hartog, just a few metres away in the Kambri building.
The closest parking to the store is an underground carpark directly below Harry Hartog (with stairs or public lift access to ground level. Staff at Harry Hartog can provide swipe-pass lift access from ground level to the upper level of their store, where the workshop will be held.)
Due to the newness of the precinct, this car park isn't clearly marked in maps. To find it, drive down Kingsley Street (off Barry Drive) and follow signage to the Drill Hall Gallery/Drill Hall Gallery parking. Follow Kingsley Street straight down to its culmination in an underground carpark and you will have the correct one. We recommend this parking option for people who cannot or do not wish to cover much ground to the workshop venue. It costs $5 for the whole day on a Saturday. Parking at Llewellyn Hall is a short stroll away.
