Trained at Waseda University in Tokyo and profoundly influenced early in his career by Yoshio Watanabe's photographs of traditional Japanese architecture, Futagawa established the Edita Tokyo publishing company in 1970 and, through it, the \u003cem\u003eGlobal Architecture\u003c\/em\u003e (GA) series, a sustained, decades-long publishing project that would eventually encompass \u003cem\u003eGA\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem\u003eGA Houses\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cem\u003eGA Document\u003c\/em\u003e, and \u003cem\u003eGA Architect\u003c\/em\u003e.
