A bilingual monograph on the Tokyo practice Atelier Tekuto, whose architect Yasuhiro Yamashita treats materials as the starting point of each design.
Yasuhiro Yamashita was born in 1960 on Amami Ōshima, in southern Japan, and founded Atelier Tekuto in Tokyo in 1991. The practice became known for compact urban houses on small sites, among them Cell Bricks, which won the AR Emerging Architecture Award in 2004, and Lucky Drops. This volume presents the practice’s work and sets it in a wider context of economy, versatility, ecology and social action, and illustrates Yamashita’s attention to materials through projects including churches, mobile homes and private houses.
First edition. Text in English and Japanese. Tall octavo. 280pp. Coptic binding with an exposed spine, in pictorial hardcover boards with bright blue endpapers. Near fine. There is a little scuffing to the corners of the boards, and the book is otherwise fine throughout.
