A faithful reproduction of FitzGerald's (grandfather of the author of these volumes) original 12-part series on Australian Orchids. Considered among the finest botanical illustrations published in Australia, with Joseph Dalton Hooker considering it a work "which would be an honour to any country". FitzGerald's works now demand considerable value among collector's markets.

Vol.I comprises parts 1-7; Vol.II comprises the remaining 5 parts, including the final part, published after the author's death. The printed wrappers of the original parts are bound in.

Very good. Slight bowing to cover boards. Some rubbing and scuffing to corners and edges. Some scattered and faint foxing internally. Otherwise, both volumes present beautifully. Gilt decorations bright, leather shiny and supple. The plates are pristine: bold and colourful. A remarkable set.
