GUO, Guang (photography by Tan Ming et al.). China. New York & London: Abbeville Press, 2009.

Landscape elephant folio (32 x 47cm). Deep blue cloth boards. Original pictorial dust jacket. Housed in matching pictorial cloth slipcase. 238 colour photographs throughout, including twelve panoramic gatefolds. First edition. Limited to 300 numbered copies, this being number 120. Hand-numbered signed photographic print loosely inserted, corresponding to the copy number.

China, published by Abbeville Press in 2009, presents an exceptionally comprehensive photographic survey of the country's natural and cultural landmarks, drawing on the work of a team of leading Chinese photographers. Chief among them is Tan Ming, whose contributions have been particularly singled out by specialist dealers for their quality. In total there are 238 photographs (several of which fold out into dramatic panoramic views) documenting forty-four of China's most significant sites, including the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, and the terracotta army of the First Qin Emperor, alongside less familiar but equally striking locations such as the great earthen tulou dwellings of Fujian Province, the terraced fields of Yuanyang County, and the multicoloured travertine pools of Huanglong Valley. An extended index at the rear provides historical and cultural context for each location depicted.

Near fine. A few minor imperfections here and there, generally presents as fine throughout. An awe-inspiring publication.

Please note: This is a large and heavy oblong folio volume. Additional postage costs may apply. If so, we will contact you after purchase.
