King’s tale of a possessed 1958 Plymouth Fury in its first British edition, issued in the year of John Carpenter’s film and in the unclipped Gerald Grace jacket.

Christine was published by Viking in New York on 29 April 1983. It is set in 1978 in Libertyville, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where the bookish and bullied high-school student Arnie Cunningham buys a dilapidated red-and-white 1958 Plymouth Fury, named Christine by her former owner, Roland LeBay. As Arnie restores her, the car draws him into obsession and violence. His friend Dennis Guilder and his new girlfriend Leigh Cabot watch the change in him. The result is a love triangle in which the third party is a jealous, possessive and deadly machine.

First UK edition, first printing. Octavo. 482pp. Original black cloth boards. Original pictorial dust jacket, illustrated by Gerald Grace, unclipped. Previous owner’s inscription to front free endpaper. Very good in a like dust jacket. The jacket is unclipped, with some faint markings to the covers and mild rubbing at the edges. The volume is slightly cocked. Contents very good, a bit browned along the edges, with a marking here and there internally.
