Drawing from Nature, published in 1865, followed two of Barnard's earlier and equally practical instructional works, The Theory and Practice of Landscape Painting in Watercolours (1857) and The Handbook of Foliage and Foreground Drawing (1853), and represents the culmination of his teaching method: a progressive course moving the student from elementary exercises through to finished landscape views, illustrated throughout with examples drawn from his own extensive travels and sketching expeditions in Switzerland and the Pyrenees. The volume contains appended lectures, delivered by Barnard to his pupils at Rugby School, providing a rare and interesting view into mid-Victorian art and education as practiced within one of England's foremost educational institutions.

Very good. Some restorative work previously done to binding (evidence of adhesive along front spine crease). Binding tight. Contents very good, some spotting and occasional toning throughout. Overall, a lovely copy.
