RARE TO FIND WITH UNCLIPPED DUST JACKET.

An account of the British 1933 Everest expedition, led by Ruttledge. The team included several experienced climbers such as Frank Smythe, Eric Shipton, and Wyn Harris. This was the first attempt after the disastrous 1924 expedition in which George Mallory and Andrew Irvine disappeared near the summit. Some possibilities as to what happened to the pair are ruminated upon within this account. Particularly, the finding of an ice axe offered some explanation as to their fate.

First Edition. London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1934. Royal 8vo. Original blue publisher's cloth in original unclipped dust jacket. Pages: xv, 389. 2 folding maps. Numerous illustrations and photographs throughout.
