First edition. London: Methuen and Co., (1922). 8vo. Original black cloth hardcover in original unclipped dust jacket. Pages: [xiv], 40, [iv].
Limited edition of 1000, printed on hand-made paper. Milton Whitmont Ex-Libris bookplate on FBEP. Cover and spine lettered and illustrated in gilt. Upper edge gilt, other edges uncut. Multiple leaves unopened from binding process.
Very good in fair dust jacket. Dust jacket unclipped, has some age toning at edges and chipping along edges, with larger chips at head and foot of spine. Hardcover bindings in very good condition, square and tight. Gilt to covers remains bright and preserved. Marking on spine towards foot. Contents near fine, some leaves remain unopened from original production.
The controversial publication by Methuen and Co. of the play (argued to have not been actually written by Wilde himself, but by Mabel Cosgrove) that led to a legal dispute between the publisher and Wilde's biographer, Christopher Millard.
