Frida Kahlo is widely hailed as the most important 20th Century artist of the Americas. Kahlo was nearly killed at the age of 18 in a traffic accident. It was during her initial convalescence that she took up painting.
Despite her injuries, Kahlo remained a brilliant and charismatic character.
