Harry Hartog's review
I won't lie, the sensational reviews that pepper the cover of Gideon the Ninth grabbed me by my teenage boy sensibilities and forced me to stop what I was doing and start reading immediately. All those exclamation points and one-word sentences! How could I resist? But let me tell you, this book did not disappoint. Written in the voice of your crass high school best friend that you were always nervous to bring home around your folks, Gideon the Ninth is a firecracker from start to finish. Muir, paints the perfect picture of a gothic ruling planet set amongst the stars and pits perfectly crafted characters against one another in this space fantasy novel. A perfect first book in an amazing series that only gets better and better. - Alecia, Harry Hartog Narellan
Description
"Unlike anything I've ever read. " -V.E. Schwab
"Lesbian necromancers explore a haunted gothic palace in space!" -Charles Stross
Starred reviews from Publishers Weekly, Kirkus, Library Journal, BookPage, and Booklist
The Emperor needs necromancers.
The Ninth Necromancer needs a swordswoman.
Gideon has a sword, some dirty magazines, and no more time for undead bullshit.
Tamsyn Muir's Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap off the page, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy.
