This book is a selection of eye-witness accounts of the great air battles fought during World War II between the American heavy bombardment groups and the Luftwaffe in Europe and between the American fleet fighters and the Japanese Air Force in the Pacific. In Europe it involved Liberators and Flying Fortresses of the US 8th and 15th Air Forces and their P-51 and P-47 escort fighters. Opposing them were the Messerschmitt Bf 109s and Focke Wulf 190s of the Luftwaffe. In the Pacific US Navy fliers battled with their prime enemy, the Zero.
