Zsigmony (1861-1885) was a noted Austrian mountaineer who died during an attempt on the north face of the Meije in South-Eastern France. This work was published posthumously and offers accounts of Zsigmony's climbs in the Alps and the Dolomites.
First Edition. Leipzig: Duncker & Humblot, 1889. Royal 8vo. Original maroon publisher's cloth. Pages: xv, 365. 16 plates throughout.
Bound in original maroon publisher's cloth. Cover and spine lettered in ornate gilt script. Blocked illustration of hiking equipment on cover. All edges uncut. Very good. Has been expertly recased to reinforce binding, which remains tight and square. Some very minor rubbing to corners and edges. Contents in near fine condition. Frontis and plate tissue guards present and in good order. Some very mild age toning at edges of prelims. Pages fresh and clean. Plates clear and bright. A fantastically-preserved copy.
