AUSTEN, Jane. Jane Austen: In Her Own Hand. Norwalk, Connecticut: The Easton Press, 2013. 3 vols.
8vo. All three volumes bound in full genuine leather, gilt-decorated to covers and spines with hubbed spines. All edges gilt. Smyth sewn. Silk ribbon page markers. Facsimile reproductions throughout of Austen's manuscripts in her own handwriting — juvenilia, unpublished stories, playlets, verses, and moral fragments — alongside printed transcriptions. Facsimile edition.
Jane Austen (1775–1817) began writing as a teenager, filling notebooks with stories, plays, and verses of exuberant, knowing comedy that she shared within the circle of her own family — work she never intended for publication and that survived only by the accident of her family's care in preserving her papers after her death. This facsimile set reproduces those manuscripts as they physically exist: in Austen's own hand, with her characteristic small, neat, and confident script, her crossings-out and revisions visible, her playful dedications to family members intact.
Each volume pairs the facsimile manuscript pages with printed transcriptions, allowing the reader to move between the pleasure of seeing Austen's actual handwriting and the practical clarity of a modern typeset text.
Near fine. Some mild imperfections to volume edges; otherwise fine throughout.
Please note: This is a three-volume set. Additional postage costs may apply. If so, we will contact you after purchase.
