William Brockedon (1787-1854), an artist by training, first travelled to the alps when he crossed the Simplon on his route to Italy. He returned to Switzerland and the Alps several times during the 1820s. By his own accounts he crossed the Alps nearly sixty times via thirty different routes. This work offers an account of his travels in 1824-5.
