Harry Hartog's review

Truth be told I would never knowingly choose to read a biography. I assume they will be stale, rigid and too saddled with the heaviness of fact. But instead, Little Weirds is a glimpse into Slate's life, her unique perception of the world and the exploration of her selfdom, all told through the lens of the surreal. She is at once a croissant, a light spirit and an ordinary woman (albeit one drenched in poetry and glowing with creativity). Slate lets her imagery flourish, planting her metaphors urging them to take root, sprout saplings and grow into the huge and wise oak trees they were meant to be. Funny at times, often sad, honest, ugly yet still entirely beautiful. As it turns out, this is exactly what I need in a memoir and I will accept nothing less from here on out. - Alecia, Harry Hartog Narellan

'Funny and poignant and beautiful' JOHN MULANEY

'It made me remember I was alive' GEORGE SAUNDERS

To see the world through Jenny Slate's eyes is to see it as though for the first time, shimmering with strangeness and possibility. As she will remind you, we live on an ancient ball that rotates around a bigger ball made up of lights and gases that are science gases, not farts (don't be immature). Heartbreak, confusion and misogyny stalk this blue-green sphere, yes, but it is also a place of wild delight and unconstrained vitality, a place where we can start living as soon as we are born, and we can be born at any time. In her dazzling, impossible-to-categorize debut, Jenny channels the pain and beauty of life in writing so fresh, so new and so burstingly alive, we catch her vision like a fever and bring it back out into the bright day with us, and everything has changed.
