Quantum Technology describes a new technology based on controlling the irreducible uncertainty of the quantum world. A quantum technology is one which manipulates nature at the level of quantum probability amplitudes, the essential element of the quantum theory.

In the first chapter the essential principles of the quantum theory are introduced using simple geometric arguments. Indeed no mathematical knowledge beyond simple geometry is required to appreciate the discussion throughout the book. The author then proceeds to describe various examples of present and future quantum technologies. Included are descriptions of schemes to manipulate single atoms with the scanning tunnelling microscope, to cool and trap atoms with beams of light, quantum nanocircuits, quantum data protection through impregnable quantum cryptography and vastly more powerful computers based on quantum theory. In every case simple non-mathematical arguments are used.
