Thomas W. Hinchliff (1825 - 1882) was an English mountaineer, traveller, and author. From 1875 to 1877, he was the seventh President of the Alpine Club. This work was referred to in Mark Twain's A Tramp Abroad as "Hinchcliffe's book".

First Edition. London: Longman, Brown, Green, Longmans, & Roberts, 1857. 8vo. Original red publisher's cloth. Pages: xvi, 312. Numerous maps and illustrated plates throughout.

Bound in original red publisher's cloth. Gilt titling and illustration to spine. Cover illustration blocked in gilt with decorative patterning in blind to both covers. All edges gilt. Very good. Binding sturdy. A few darker markings to upper cover and spine. Very minor rubbing at corners and spine edges. Gilt remains bright and bold. Endpapers have multiple inked owner's inscriptions. Contents in excellent condition. A hint of toning here and there. Pages fresh and bright, contents complete and clear. Plates in good order. Overall, a very good copy that presents beautifully with decorative original binding.
