Harry Hartog's review

Be warned: This book will make you hungry. It will make you want to saunter around the kitchen, chatting to friends and family, sipping an ice-cold martini. You’ll suddenly start to think that you too, could easily roast a whole pig on a Sunday afternoon. You’ll envision glorious festoons of pasta that you have lovingly made by hand. In essence, you’ll want to be Stanley. He is undeniably cool and as you could probably guess, he loves food which he writes about with such warmth and aplomb. You can almost hear his affable voice coming from the pages as he talks about his life through his great love of all things culinary, from the mainstay meals of his childhood to the foods of his wide and varied travels. If you want celebrity gossip, this is not the book for you, for despite his fame and that of those around him, he mentions them sparingly and with great self-deprecation. If you want tales of travel, love, and food (which seem wholly more interesting subjects) then this is for you. Oh, and try the potatoes…you’ll know which ones I mean. - Emily, Gift & Lifestyle Buyer

Description

From award-winning actor and food obsessive Stanley Tucci comes an intimate and irresistible memoir of life in and out of the kitchen

Before Stanley Tucci became a household name with The Devil Wears Prada, The Hunger Games, and the perfect Negroni, he grew up in an Italian American family that spent every night around the table. Taste is an intimate reflection on the intersection of food and life, filled with anecdotes about growing up in Westchester, NY, preparing for and filming the foodie films Big Night and Julie & Julia, falling in love over dinner, and teaming up with his wife to create conversation-starting meals for their children. Each morsel of this gastronomic journey through good times and bad, five-star meals and burnt dishes, is as heartfelt and delicious as the last. Written with Stanley's signature wry humour and nostalgia, Taste is a heartwarming read for anyone who knows the power of a home-cooked meal.
