The Folio Society’s four-volume Collected Stories, published for the 150th anniversary of Chekhov’s birth.
Anton Chekhov was born in Taganrog in 1860 and died in 1904. He trained as a doctor and wrote stories throughout his career, and his short fiction is among the most admired in the form. The Folio Society issued its four-volume set in 2010, the 150th anniversary of his birth.
First Folio Society edition. Large octavo. Four volumes: vol. I, xvi, 333pp.; vol. II, [ix], 347pp.; vol. III, [ix], 303pp.; vol. IV, [ix], 364pp. Bound in blue buckram, illustrated and titled in gilt and black, in the publisher’s illustrated slipcase. Near fine overall. The slipcase shows some shelf wear, with a little wear to the cover illustration at the front edge. There is mild foxing to the upper edges of the volumes, strongest in volume four, and the contents are otherwise clean and bright.
