The Folio Society’s three-volume gathering of Poirot’s short cases, illustrated by Christopher Brown.

Hercule Poirot, the fastidious Belgian detective, made his debut in Christie’s first novel and went on to appear in dozens of short stories as well as the novels. The Folio Society’s set of 2003 gathers them in three volumes, drawing on collections including Poirot Investigates, Poirot’s Early Cases and Murder in the Mews. Maxim Jakubowski introduces the set, discussing how the character developed, how he has been portrayed in the books and on screen, and which stories he likes best. Christopher Brown also illustrated the Folio Society’s Complete Miss Marple Short Stories, issued in the same year.

First Folio Society edition. Introduced by Maxim Jakubowski. Illustrated by Christopher Brown. Three volumes in a slipcase, large octavo. Illustrated throughout with black-and-white drawings by Christopher Brown. Each volume is bound in a different colour of cloth, lettered in white with blocked illustrations to the covers and spines, and housed in a patterned paper slipcase. A near fine set, with a spot of foxing to the volume edges and some very mild shelf wear to the slipcase. It is otherwise clean and bright throughout.
