Bound in early full tan calf with gilt tooling by Relfe Brothers London (binders stamp on rear of FFEP). Covers ruled in gilt, with gilt-stamped insignia on front. Spine titling stamped in gilt on black Morocco panel. Spine bands and compartments elaborately patterned in tooled gilt on red Morocco panels. Inner dentelles elaborately tooled in gilt. All edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. Very good. Binding generally tight, though hinge cracked at front endpaper gutter. Some rubbing on creases and corners. Some wear and fading to spine compartments. Otherwise, binding in good condition, presents beautifully. Contents in excellent condition. Tiny staining at top edge of preliminaries. Very occasional small mark here and there. Folding map near pristine condition. A beautifully bound copy.

Provenance: From the library of Warwick H. Williams. Front cover gilt stamped with the crest of the Presbyterian Ladies' College of Melbourne. Carries the college's original motto in German ("Ohne Hast Ohne Rast").
