Folio Society limited facsimile edition. First edition thus. Numbered on colophon, 78 of 1000.
A 13th century accounting of the end of the world and the judgement of souls that follows, as described in the Book of Revelations. This facsimile is a reproduction of the apocrypha held in the Getty Museum. The original text was embellished with gold and silver leaf. This facsimile reproduces the effect with metallic foil overlay and an additional barrier layer to reduce glare and reproduce the aged look of the original.
Comes with commentary volume by Nigel J. Morgan, containing translations of St John's original text, as well as commentary by Berengaudus and contextual essays.
Both volumes housed in red-brown buckram solander case. Main volume bound in quarter brown goatskin leather and decorative boards. Cover illustration blocked in gilt and colour and designed by David Eccles. All edges gilt. Commentary volume bound in red-brown buckram with gilt titling and illustrations.
