"This book is in many respects one of the best-written and most interesting works on scientific mountaineering ever made public. It contains an account of the first ascent of Aconcagua, of Tupungato, and of seven months' labour in surveying and map-making, in the years 1896 and 1897, in regions previously unknown." - Included Birmingham Post review.

First Edition. London: Methuen & Co., 1899. Royal 8vo. Original red publisher's cloth. Pages: [ii, frontis] xvi, 390. 2 folding maps at rear. 51 illustrations throughout, folding panorama.

Bound in deep red publisher's cloth. Cover and spine lettered and ruled in gilt. Gilt-blocked illustration of Condor to upper cover. Upper edge gilt, others uncut. Early owners inscription inked and W. Williams signature pencilled to FFEP. Includes clippings of two early book reviews.

Near fine. Binding square and tight. Spine a touch faded, with a small mark near titling. Covers in fantastic condition, gilt bright, colours rich, and free from wear.
