The Swanstons’ campaign-by-campaign atlas of the Second World War, in a gilt-edged leather binding.
Malcolm and Alexander Swanston are British cartographers and writers who have collaborated on historical atlases for over thirty years. This atlas follows the war from Germany’s invasion of Poland in 1939 to Japan’s surrender in 1945. It shows troop movements, terrain, weather, battle plans and the strength of the forces, and it treats the war mainly as a series of campaigns and battles. This copy is the Chartwell text in a full leather binding of the kind The Easton Press of Norwalk, Connecticut, produced for its Collector’s Editions, identified by its stamp on the spine.
First edition, issued in a leather binding as a Collector’s Edition. Large quarto, 400pp., with some 170 colour maps. Full navy leather, lettered and decorated in gilt, with The Easton Press’s publisher’s stamp in gilt to the spine. All edges gilt, moiré endpapers, satin ribbon marker. The text carries no reference to Easton Press. Fine, a pristine copy.
