Originally published across six volumes between 1842 and 1849, these volumes represent the culmination of the artistic work undertaken during Robert's expedition to the Egypt and the Holy Land. The resulting publication was highly influential back in Britain, creating a picturesque version of the East that held its influence for centuries. Almost 200 years since original publication, the works created by Roberts are housed in institutions such as the Library of Congress in Washington and London's Victoria and Albert Museum.
