Bernard Cornwell OBE (b. 1944) is among the most widely read historical novelists working in English, the author of more than sixty novels across several long-running series, of which the Richard Sharpe sequence remains his most celebrated and the one that first established his reputation. Cornwell wrote the original Sharpe novels in publication order beginning with the Peninsular War campaigns of 1809 onward, but the character's full military career, once popular demand made a prequel trilogy commercially inevitable, required him to go back and fill in Sharpe's earlier service — and it is that earlier chapter of the character's life that this trilogy tells.

Near fine. All volumes present well. Some very minor loss to cover gilt. Contents fine. Some mild spotting along gilt edges of volumes.
