The Queen Victoria Building

The city of Sydney still retains many examples of the vigorous Victorian architecture which shaped its character in earlier times. New interest in the nation's history has led recently to greater appreciation of the significance of buildings as social and cultural records, and in this context the architecture of the Victorian period is particularly important. The preservation of the Queen Victoria Building must rank as one of the most fortunate results of this enlightened attitude. This book contains sketches and drawings by a distinguished artist, presenting an overview of the building's most appealing qualities. Allan Gamble was formerly a senior lecturer in Architecture at the University of Sydney. He has produced several sketch-books depicting different areas of Sydney and has held numerous exhibitions of his pen and watercolour works.
