A rare and excellent example of the “middle-class” Alpine guidebooks that emerged during the mid-19th century when rail travel proliferated across the UK and continental Europe. Jones’ book served as a popular pocket guide for travellers, supplying both travel information and moral instruction.

First edition. 16mo. xiv, 393, [i]pp. Bound in original green publisher's cloth. Lettering in gilt to dover and spine. Gilt-illustrated vignette of chalet to cover. Cover margins in blind. Edges patterned subtly in blue. Very good. Some rubbing to covers. Spine strip slightly loosened. Some minor markings to rear cover. Contents very good. Very scattered spotting internally. Overall, clean, fresh, and bright. Presents beautifully.
