A history of the occult and its practitioners by the creator of Dr Fu Manchu, in its original dust jacket.

First published by Methuen in 1914, The Romance of Sorcery is a work of occult history by Sax Rohmer (Arthur Henry Sarsfield Ward, 1883–1959), better known for his fiction. It surveys magic, witchcraft and their practitioners through the ages. The first Methuen edition appeared in red cloth with twelve plates, and this third edition of 1927 appeared in Methuen’s 3/6 Novels series. Copies of the 1920s printings in their original jackets are much scarcer than the books alone.

Third edition. Crown octavo. 224pp. Orange cloth boards in the original pictorial dust jacket, unclipped and priced 3s. 6d. net. The jacket is clean and bright, and the cover boards likewise. The paper is a little toned internally, as the stock is prone to be, with some scattered markings to the front and end matter. An excellent copy.
