Clarke's first novel. A cornerstone work of the science fiction genre. Bound in red cloth with lettering stamped in black to spine. Previous owners signature inked on FFEP.

First edition. London: Sidgwick and Jackson Limited, (1951). 8vo. Original cloth hardcover in original unclipped dust jacket. Pages: [iv], 219.

Very good in fair dust jacket. Dust jacket price clipped, loss at spine ends and along fold-in creases. Jacket spine browned, with piece of tape crossing it horizontally. Binding remains tight and square. Contents are age toned, particularly towards edges, as is common with this edition.

Arthur C. Clarke was a British science fiction writer and inventor, who is widely regarded as a key figure in the popularisation of space travel. His screenplay for the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was co-written with Stanley Kubrick, is considered to be one of the most influential films of all time. For many years Arthur C. Clarke, along with Robert Heinlein and Isaac Asimov, were considered the 'Big Three' of science fiction writing. Clarke also wrote a number of extremely influential non-fiction works.
