A 1928 Readers Library reprint of the thriller behind a hit stage play and a 1929 film, complete with its pictorial dust jacket.

The Silent House is a thriller by John G. Brandon, published by Cassell in 1928 at 7s. 6d., and tied to the stage play by Brandon and George Pickett. The play was a success and led to a British film, directed by Walter Forde for Nettlefold Studios and trade-shown in January 1929. The Readers Library reissued the book in a cheap but well-made series, with a pictorial jacket. The villain is the mandarin Chan-fu, and the book belongs to the tradition of “Yellow Peril” fiction.

First Readers Library edition, first printing. Small octavo. 251pp. Burgundy cloth boards, decorated and lettered in gilt to the cover and spine, in the original pictorial dust jacket. Good in a near fine dust jacket, with very mild wear to the jacket edges. The cover boards are worn along the edges, and the contents are toned throughout, with some foxing.
