Whymper's account of his mountain adventure in the Andes and his successful ascent of Mt Cimborozo. Often considered his greatest work, across the main and supplementary volumes is a mix of narrative accounting of his ascents as well as thorough scientific observations.

Bound in original olive green publisher's cloth. Gilt gilt patterning stamped on cover. Patterning and lettering to spine in gilt. Illustration to supplementary volume cover blocked in gilt. Edges uncut. Aneroid Barometer pamphlet in original paper wrappers. Very good. Spines faded. Some rubbing to edges and corners of both volumes. Cover pattern gilt bright and bold on both volumes, as well as vignette on supp. vol. Toning and foxing on cover of second supp. volume. Contents of all volumes in excellent condition, generally fresh, bright, and preserved. Some markings here and there, particularly on endpapers and preliminaries.
