Alfred Jarry was a French Symbolist writer. This work (orig. 1896 in French) directly influenced the Dada, Surrealist, and Futurist movements, as well as the later Theatre of the Absurd.
Overall condition: Excellent. Dust Jacket unclipped and in excellent condition. Some wearing and cracking on creases and at spine edges. Colours remain true. Some age toning to inner surface along upper edge. Original black cloth hardcover boards in excellent condition. Very minor wearing at edges and extremities. End papers and text block in excellent condition. Colours bright. Some age toning and foxing here and there.
First English edition. Translated from French by Barbara Wright. Features two portraits of the Jarry by Lucien Lantier and F.-A. Cazals, as well as several illustrations by Jarry and Pierre Bonnard and 204 lithographic illustrations by Franciska Themerson.
