46 steel engraved plates. Bound in full dark red Morocco. Gilt tooling on all cover surfaces. 5 raised bands on spine, with elaborate gilt tooling to compartments. Covers ruled and tooled in gilt. Dentelles with gilt tooling. Text block edges all in gilt. First edition of the highly successful series of plates illustrating scenes in Melbourne, Geelong, the goldfields townships, and elsewhere in the Victorian countryside in Gill's inimitable style. 

Overall condition: good. Leather has some rubbing and wearing along edges and creases. Mild loss to gilt in some places. Otherwise, covers are well preserved, gilt is bright. Contents are in good condition, overall. Some age toning, foxing, and age markings present throughout. All engraved plates are present, and are generally clear and bold.
